What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy evaluates, restores and maintains your physical function in a drug-free environment. As a regulated health care profession, physiotherapy can be done independently or in conjunction with other types of medical management. The practice can be useful in diagnosing and managing musculo-skeletal conditions of the back or neck, or joint pain such as hips, knees, ankles, wrists, elbows or shoulders. The goal of physiotherapy is to improve balance, strength and mobility, while protecting your body against future concerns.

How can a physiotherapist help me?

Physiotherapists begin rehabilitation after you have undergone surgery, been in an accident or have been injured. Unlike medical doctors, physiotherapists are not only interested in your symptoms, but also the factors that contribute to your discomfort. After performing assessments, the physiotherapists can identify the problem and develop practices and exercise programs that can lead you to recovery.

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

A doctor referral is not required for physiotherapy – but they are welcome. Referrals can be done through a health care provider or on your own account. Simply contact us directly, or have a health practitioner call or fax us the referral request.
